Bzflag finds all the server in the server list, but you can not connect The game just dies. Syncd to the latest development tree for Fedora Now the good stuff. If you are on Windows, you should open the solution file (CollectorCLI.sln) using Visual C (any version should work). With all that said, people seem to like this game, I may check it out later!Įdit: Looks like they added a tagline to the page. Bzflag compiles just fine with no warning or errors. First of all, you need to get your hands on the BZFlag stats collector, which can be cloned using SVN: Then, you need to compile the CollectorCLI sources. You don't necessarily need to have a tagline like that on every release page or documentation page, but if I end up on your site and delete everything from the URL except "", I should be 2 seconds away from a simple description of what your project is. Destroying a player on another team scores a win, while being destroyed or destroying a teammate scores a loss. There are five teams: red, green, blue, purple and rogue (rogue tanks are black). This could've been fixed by just having an h2 and a paragraph at the top saying "BZFlag" and "An open source tank-based warfare game with online multiplayer, going strong since 2008!" (or whenever the project started) BZFlag is a 3D multi-player multiplatform tank battle game which allows users to play against each other in a network environment. I guess this is a game where you drive tanks? I'll take a look at the comments. On Debian distros, the respective packages are libsdl2-dev and libsdl1.2-dev not sure what Gentoo has.

"A Flying tank", "Tanks with Superpowers". Do you have the -dev packages installed of SDL or just the libraries The dev packages contain header files needed to compile things. > Hmm, the project news doesn't tell me much. This option is available only when bzflag is compiled with debugging enabled.

Is this a game engine? A physics simulator? Maybe if I scroll down I'll find out BZFlag is a 3D multi-player tank battle game that allows users to play.

> BZFlag? Does this have something to do with zipping files? Meh, I'll click and see what it is. BZFlag is a free 3D multi-player tank battle game with cross-play between Windows, macOS, and Linux. Here's what I thought when I clicked this link:

If you ever liked Battlezone, I highly recommend this game.I've made a couple of comments like this on HN before, but whenever you make a homepage for a project, whether it's a game, game engine, software library, command line tool or anything-please start by describing what the thing is in one or two sentences.

The game is completely free (download and edit the source code if you want), and Windows, OS X and Linux versions are all available. the keyboard is used for more advanced control when necessary. Control is a little odd, and is controlled almost entirely with the mouse alone (It's weird at first, but not hard to get used to). The levels are fairly simple, although some of them can have some complex buildings and bridges, and usually have teleporters scattered around. my 400MHz machine can easily handle the highest detail modes, so you shouldn't have to worry). The graphics are all done in OpenGL, and can be played at various levels of detail (So if you're running on a slow system, you can turn off texture mapping to gain speed. Shots may ricochet off walls (beware the powerful laser!), and you may be allowed to jump. White flags litter the playfield, and act as powerups or power-downs (ie, cloaking makes you invisible (you still show up on radar), and left-turn-only delivers exactly what it promises). There are optional rules that may or may not be in use on various servers. The game is all online multiplayer, and the program itself includes a server browser. Note that all their dependencies will be built, so you dont need to track them. The fifth team is called the "Rogue" team, and they basically just try to kill anyone on the other teams. For limited bulk builds you need to make a list of packages you want to build. four teams are assigned colors and attempt to capture the flags of the other teams. The game itself is essentially capture the flag Battlezone (hence the name BZFlag). Anyone here ever play BZFlag? I only recently got around to compiling it on my system (I had tried a long time ago, but got sidelined with compile errors), and it's pretty damn fun!
